Onoe, Satoshi

Summary

Satoshi Onoe is a passionate journalist with a strong interest in politics who is unexpectedly assigned to the "Movement of Celebrities and Pop Culture" section to cover for an absent colleague. In this role, he is paired with Motoharu Kaburagi, a situation that fuels his resentment due to their shared history. Onoe recalls their time working in the same department at a journalism firm, where his diligent efforts were consistently overshadowed by Kabu’s ability to secure more prominent sections in DASH magazine, establishing Kabu as a rival. This forced partnership only intensifies Onoe’s underlying animosity toward him. Onoe is initially baffled by Kaburagi’s behavior, particularly noting a stark contrast in how Kabu acts around women outside of work compared to his professional demeanor. Maintaining his own sense of dignity, Onoe condemns Kabu for employing deceitful and inappropriate tactics to gather information, explicitly calling him a liar. However, as he spends more time with Kabu, Onoe begins to see past the initial impression and grows increasingly attracted to him, becoming noticeably bashful in his presence. This shift in Onoe’s attitude stirs Kabu, who finds himself drawn to Onoe’s sincerity. Despite his honesty, Onoe’s straightforward nature confuses Kabu, who struggles to detect sarcasm and therefore takes everything Onoe says at face value at the beginning of their romantic involvement. Onoe remains deeply infatuated with Kabu, becoming easily jealous whenever other women interact with him, which leads to him suffering from constant anxiety and unfounded assumptions.
