Tooyama, Kintarou
Summary
Tooyama Kintarou is a student in Class 1-4, ranked as number 20, with a birthday on April 1, placing him under the Aries sign. He possesses a B blood type, stands at 151cm tall, and weighs 52kg. His eyesight is remarkably sharp at 3.6 in both eyes, and he is right-handed. His signature move is the Super Ultra Great Delicious Giant Swing Mountain Storm, or Chou Ultra Great Delicious Daishyarin Yamaarashi. He has a deep affection for Takoyaki, which serves as both his favorite food and his primary expenditure, with a daily goal of consuming 100 pieces. His hobbies include reading manga, and he spends most of his time in the school gym, his most visited location. Academically, he excels in PE but struggles significantly with the core subjects of Japanese, Math, Science, Social Studies, and English. He serves on the Athletics Committee and attends Dotonhori First Elementary School, the same school as Zaizen. His family consists of his parents and a dog, with his father working as a mailman. His motto is "An eye for an eye," and he favors Sentai movies, the book COOL, and the song Matsuri no Ondo. His preferred colors are gold, orange, and green, and he is attracted to interesting men, though he has no concept of dating. Outside of tennis, his main skill is eating quickly. He uses an original racquet whose strings have not yet broken. In the Prince of Tennis universe, Kintarou is the youngest member of Shitenhouji, a powerhouse team introduced during the Nationals Tournament OVA. He first appears in the second OVA episode, colliding with Horio Junpei, the cousin of Seigaku’s Satoshi Horio. Kintarou was traveling to the Nationals in Tokyo but mistakenly disembarked early because he saw Mount Fuji, assuming he had arrived. While the anime adapts this differently, the manga plot remains consistent. He is revealed to be a key player for Shitenhouji, one of Seigaku's toughest rivals. The opening song positions him as Ryoma’s equal and new rival. A conversation between Hyotei’s Yuushi Oshitari and his cousin Kenya Oshitari, a Shitenhouji member, highlights a brewing rivalry between the southern players and Tokyo’s Ryoma Echizen. Kintarou displays an irrational fear of Shitenhouji captain Kuranosuke Shiraishi due to a manga about monsters with poison claws. He imagines Shiraishi has poison claws under his bandages, a fear Shiraishi exploits by leashing him when Kintarou misbehaves or when Shiraishi needs a task done. Despite this, Kintarou is cheerful and open, befriending Junpei and Sakuno Ryuzaki. He once fell from a tree onto Sakuno, ate her dropped rice balls, and praised her cooking. Trivia notes that Kintarou misreads Echizen’s name as "Koshimae." His poor grasp of Japanese leads him to misinterpret Kenya’s description of Ryoma having "nerves of steel" and "san paku gan" as having a steel body, releasing toxins, and possessing three eyes.
