Kakei, Shun
Summary
As the second tallest member of the team and its de facto leader, Shun holds the unique distinction of being the first person to acknowledge that a genuine Eyeshield 21 plays football at Notre Dame Prep. He maintains that the Sena Kobayakawa, who was transformed into the Devil Bat Ghost by Hiruma, is not the real deal. Having attended school in the United States during middle school, Shun originally quit football because he felt intimidated by the size advantage possessed by his American peers. However, witnessing the Japanese player from Notre Dame in action reignited his passion, driving him to challenge Eyeshield 21 directly. This encounter fueled his training with renewed vigor, and he vowed to face his rival again during the finals. When the match against Notre Dame finally arrived, however, Eyeshield 21 failed to appear. After discovering that no one knew who he was or if he even existed, Shun insisted that Sena was an impostor, noting that the true Eyeshield 21 was significantly taller. He then declared his intention to defeat the Devil Bat’s fake. Eventually, Shun concedes that Sena is worthy of the title and urges him to keep fighting until the final game. Due to his serious demeanor, Shun often finds himself the target of his teammates’ immature antics. He appears accustomed to this behavior, even ignoring the chaos surrounding Sena, Monta, and the others trying to prevent Mizumachi from peeping at the bathhouse, a situation that ended with them being pushed through a wall by Urashima, the vice captain of Kyoshin’s cheerleading squad. Later, during the game against the Bando Spiders, Shun hints that player Akaba Hayato is the actual Eyeshield 21 from Notre Dame.
