Summary
Julius Novachrono serves as the 28th Magic Emperor of the Clover Kingdom's Order of the Magic Knights. Born into a noble realm, he disregards social class or family lineage, valuing only those who contribute to a better world. This egalitarian view has led some fans to speculate that he may have originated from a peasant background. After passing the Magic Knights exam, Julius joined the Grey Deer squad, now affectionately known to viewers as the Aqua Deer. The unit featured several notable members before Julius was eventually chosen by the Wizard King to lead them. As Captain, Julius recruited Yami Sukehiro, the current leader of the Black Bulls. Despite Yami being an outsider ostracized by the kingdom, Julius recognized his immense potential. The two developed a close bond, and their friendship is considered a highlight of the series. Interestingly, becoming Wizard King was not always Julius’s ambition. As a Royal Knight, he was content with his role, as it allowed him to indulge his obsession with magic and encounter powerful mages. True to his reputation as a giant nerd, Julius possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of magic that far exceeds that of other Magic Knights Captains. When Yuno acquired a new power during a dungeon investigation, Julius immediately identified it as the wind spirit Sylph, even though Yuno himself barely understood or could control the ability. Additionally, Julius managed to decipher an ancient magical artifact designed by the very first Wizard King over 500 years ago. However, he is not infallible; he was genuinely surprised by Asta’s anti-magic sword. Julius’s cheerful demeanor can be deceiving, as he is capable of ruthlessness when necessary. Throughout the anime, he demonstrates kindness, compassion, and forgiveness, such as when he attempted to capture Patolli alive to preserve William’s body. Yet, he is not soft-hearted. When the Eye of The Midnight Sun attacked the kingdom and kidnapped Asta, Julius swiftly killed two members of the terrorist organization. He is fully willing to take a life to protect those he cares about.
