Ling, Xiaoli

Summary

Ling Xiaoli, known as Lin Shaolee in the manga, is a character with an unknown age and birthdate, standing 168cm tall and weighing 57kg. He possesses Blood Type O and wields a weapon called Seiren. After his predecessor, Ash, was killed by Creed, Lin took over as number X within the Chronos Numbers. Prior to joining the organization, his idol was Train Heartnet, whom he admired for his unique mission style. Lin is a master of quick-change and disguise, earning him the nickname "The Magician." His weapon, Seiren, is a hagoromo or feather mantle lined with orihalcon wires, which can block attacks or cut through metal using its edges. In the manga, Lin plays a significant role in two key arcs. First, disguised, he convinces Train to head to the Apostles of The Stars' hideout. Sephiria believed the Cerberus team needed Train's support, not to help them directly, but because Sephiria assumed Train would want to eliminate Creed upon seeing him. However, once inside the castle, Train left Cerberus and the Apostles to battle without intervening, rescuing only Rinslet. Later, during the Sweeper Alliance arc, Lin disguised himself as Grin, the founder of the Sweeper Alliance. He planned to take the sweepers to Clarken Island to eliminate Creed, but his true intent was to use them as a diversion for the Chrono Numbers to attack the headquarters unexpectedly. He distributed a video game to all sweepers containing intellectual tests; only those who passed learned the address of their final meeting point for the departure to Clarken Island. In the anime, Lin does not appear until the Sweeper Alliance arc, and his role differs. He summons the sweepers and instantly grants them passage to Clarken Island. After his identity is revealed, he attempts to persuade Train to rejoin Chronos, a scene exclusive to the anime (Episode 17). His personality is portrayed as darker in the anime compared to the manga. While the manga depicts him as an innocent Number who admired Train and sought world peace, the anime shows his admiration focused on Train's power. He frequently offends the sweepers, accusing them of fighting without receiving anything in return, which gives him a materialistic tone. However, his personality evolves to show a more sympathetic side. This shift begins when he calls the sweepers idiots for fighting without reward, but after a conversation with Train while helping townsfolk, Train asks if Lin is one of those fools. Lin smiles and replies, "You might be right."
