Iwao Shimabukuro, a former featherweight professional boxer from Okinawa who trained at the Okinawa Seaside Gym before retiring to work as a fisherman, made history as Ippo Makunouchi's fourth challenger. As the first opponent featured in the Rising Saga, he was also the inaugural fighter to discover a method for breaking the Dempsey Roll.
