Summary
Katsura Kogoro served as the legendary young commander of the Chōshū Ishin-Shishi and emerged as one of the pivotal figures of the Meiji Restoration alongside Ōkubo Toshimichi and Saigō Takamori. He played a crucial role in uniting the former rival domains of Chōshū and Satsuma. After observing the exceptional skills of young Himura Kenshin within the Kiheitai, Katsura recruited the fourteen-year-old swordsman into his ranks, assigning him the role of a hitokiri in Kyoto. During the Bakumatsu period, Katsura functioned as the direct superior to the Battōsai.
