Giebel

Summary

Giebel was a prominent business figure based in Hamburg, Germany, who murdered his aunt following a bitter estrangement. His crime became entangled with the Middle-Aged Couple Murders plaguing the country, which were falsely attributed to Dr. Kenzo Tenma and actually committed by Johan Liebert and his accomplices. Consequently, the BKA dispatched Inspector Heinrich Lunge to investigate the scene. Despite mounting evidence exonerating Tenma and others linked to the broader murders, Lunge deliberately ignored the truth. He saw an opportunity to finally capture his long-standing obsession, Tenma, by tricking him into believing his "alternate personality," Johan, had committed the crime. Lunge questioned Giebel in a menacing manner, implying his guilt to torment him. Giebel vehemently denied the accusations, but Lunge dismissed his pleas, viewing the businessman merely as a pawn. Desperate and convinced that Lunge was fixated on arresting him, Giebel followed the inspector when he went to apprehend Tenma at the aunt’s residence. As Lunge moved to seize Tenma, Giebel intervened by stabbing the inspector, thereby proving his own guilt. However, Lunge remained impassive and shoved Giebel aside with contempt before continuing his pursuit of Tenma. The wound would have been fatal had it not been for Tenma’s subsequent intervention to save Lunge from blood loss. Later, Lunge’s superiors noted that his actions had successfully led to Giebel’s identification and capture, while Tenma managed to escape.
