Sakura

Summary

Sakura, born on April 1 and aged 14 at the series' start, begins as the princess of the Kingdom of Clow harboring romantic feelings for her childhood friend, Syaoran. Just as she prepares to confess, a mysterious force awakens her dormant magic, manifesting as feathered wings. These feathers scatter across time and space, with each one representing a memory tied to her heart; Syaoran vows to retrieve them, knowing that losing them all will cause Sakura to die. Fei-Wong Reed, the series' villain, notes that the power concealed within Sakura and the ruins of Clow Country surpasses the dimensional abilities of figures like High Priest Yukito, Princess Tomoyo of Nihon, and Yūko. To cross dimensions, Sakura must pay Yūko the thing most important to her. She pays indirectly, but the price mirrors Syaoran’s: her memories of him. Upon waking in the Hanshin Republic, she sees Syaoran but asks, "Who are you?", having forgotten him entirely. Although she comes close to remembering him in places like Ōuto, the memories are quickly erased. Syaoran, aware of this pattern, never reveals their past, leaving Sakura to only know him through her adventures with Mokona, Fai, and Kurogane, though she senses his past importance and finds herself falling in love with him again. Sakura possesses unnaturally good luck, earning her the title "a favored daughter of the gods" from Chun Hyang and Yūko, which allowed safe dimensional travel until Yūko claimed it as payment. She can also hear voices of the unseen, such as nature spirits, and see ghosts, evidenced by her ability to see Princess Emeraude in the Country of Jade when others could not. Additionally, she has unreliable, uncontrollable visions of the future. Initially passive and weary from her memory loss, Sakura grows stronger and more independent over time. Syaoran remarks that despite her lost memories, her core self remains unchanged. She supports the group whenever possible, contributing through daily chores like washing dishes or by saving their lives.
