Houraisan, Kaguya
Summary
Kaguya was once a princess of the Lunarians, a race residing on the Moon, before being exiled to Earth over a millennium ago for utilizing the forbidden Hourai Elixir to achieve immortality. Upon arriving in central Japan, she was discovered by a bamboo cutter and lived among the humans she had previously despised. While her people viewed humans with contempt, Kaguya developed a deep affection for her new home. Her otherworldly beauty attracted suitors from across Japan, yet none could fulfill the conditions of her Five Impossible Requests to win her hand in marriage. After many years, lunar emissaries arrived with news that her crime had been pardoned and she was required to return to the Moon. Having grown attached to life on Earth, Kaguya refused to go back to the lunar capital. With assistance from her friend Eirin, she evaded the emissaries and fled to Gensoukyou. The two Lunarians took refuge in Eientei, an ancient mansion concealed within a secluded bamboo forest, beginning a self-imposed exile. During the Imperishable Night incident, Eirin hid Kaguya in a secret pathway alongside the true Moon to prevent Lunarians sent to retrieve Reisen from finding her. The heroines discovered her nonetheless and demanded the return of the full Moon to Gensoukyou. Following her defeat, Kaguya unleashed her power of eternity in a desperate attempt to break the spell of the imperishable night. She eventually surrendered, allowing the true Moon to be recovered. Currently, Kaguya enjoys a carefree existence at Eientei, occasionally hosting exhibitions of Lunarian treasures for the residents of Gensoukyou. Her prolonged isolation has left her lonely, and she finds joy in sharing stories with any guests who visit.
