Summary
Saionji Kyouichi is a seventeen-year-old student with an August 25th birthday, blood type O, and rose color Green. As the vice-president of the Student Council and captain of the kendo team, he wields the Sword of Dios, a katana. In the anime adaptation of Drive to Duel, his motivation is to find something eternal, claim Anthy as his Rose Bride, and finally defeat Touga. He serves as the first duelist Utena confronts. Saionji is characterized as temperamental, egotistic, and prone to violent rages, often displaying cruelty and extreme possessiveness toward Anthy. Driven by a belief that they are destined to be together, he physically abuses her and persists in pursuing her even after their engagement is broken. Although he practices kendo with his childhood friend Touga, Saionji harbors deep resentment toward him and cannot tolerate humiliation, which Touga shamelessly exploits. Saionji is less perceptive, intelligent, and skilled than Touga, and despite his efforts, he is unable to best him. This estrangement from his friend deeply affects him.
