Summary
Legretta the Quick, known in the Japanese version as Regret with the title Magic Bullet, Regret, serves as a God-General of the Oracle Knights in Tales of the Abyss. As one of Van’s most trusted subordinates, she acts as his personal bodyguard, executes his complex operations, and occasionally issues commands to other God-Generals. Holding the rank of Major in the regular Oracle Knights, she formerly served as the instructor for Tear Grants. Despite her close ties to both Van and Tear, she frequently clashes with Tear and her allies throughout the narrative. In combat, she utilizes a pair of fon-tech handguns and Light Fonic Artes. Originally a Major before her promotion, Legretta was a role model for Tear. However, she later reveals deep depression regarding the Score, a force she believes dictates every action and fosters unhealthy dependency among the populace. She questions whether she is merely a puppet controlled by the Score, even doubting if her own emotions are manufactured by it. Physically, she matches Tear in height and is twenty-six years old. She wears the standard black Order of Lorelei attire, featuring long blonde hair in a ragged ponytail and a red cloth draping from her arms down her back, with her dual fon-tech handguns typically holstered behind her. Later in the game, she acquires a costume change that adds a white metallic chest mantle and replaces the red cloth with a similar metallic material. Her voice is typically staccato and loud during battles, but becomes gentle when interacting with Van, Tear, or her peers, masking her lethal skill. She is voiced by Miki Ito in the Japanese version and Cindy Robinson in the American release. As a soldier, Legretta is calculating, intelligent, and fiercely loyal to Van, obeying his orders without hesitation regardless of how grisly they may be. She argues that humanity must reject the Score to achieve true free will, a stance that conflicts with Tear’s belief that blind obedience to Van negates any freedom. Legretta remains steadfast in her convictions, fighting Tear despite their past relationship. While she appears to be an efficient, emotionless soldier who taught Tear to hide her feelings to avoid weakness, she does display emotions near the end of her life. Legretta is a formidable combatant, wielding dual fon-tech guns that do not require reloading, allowing for relentless shooting combos. She possesses high physical defense but can be staggered when charging spells. Her offensive capabilities include a powerful spinning attack that deals significant damage and knocks opponents down. She casts various Light Fonic Artes and the high-level water-based Blessed Drops. Notably, she can use arcane strike artes without an FOF, enabling her to shift battle dynamics instantly. Her special skills include Rage Laser, a penetrating light beam, and her Mystic Arte, Prism Ballet, which surrounds the target with light walls before firing a massive Rage Laser. She is resistant to light-based fonic and strike artes, aligning with her light element.
