Summary
Makoto Yuuki is a sixteen or seventeen-year-old orphan whose parents passed away a decade before the events of Persona 3, prompting his return to the city of his youth. He arrives at the dormitory at the start of the narrative and discovers his power to summon a Persona when Shadows attack the residence during the Dark Hour. After Mitsuru invites him to join SEES, he is subsequently elected as the team’s combat leader. As the protagonist, Makoto is distinct from his peers due to his ability to wield multiple Personas and switch between them mid-battle. He is also the only character granted access to the Velvet Room. While his initial Persona is Orpheus, he can acquire over 170 different Personas through fusion and other methods. He utilizes one-handed swords and draws power from the Fool, Death, Judgement, and Universe Arcana. Artist Soejima Junpei spent more time designing the Main Character than any other figure, as the rest of the cast was created to complement his aesthetic. In the Art of Persona 3, Soejima noted that while Makoto initially appeared as an honest, handsome ordinary young man, the design process focused on achieving a greater sense of ambiguity in his expression.
