Summary
Kankou, also known by the alias Umibouzu (星海坊主), serves as the father of Kagura and Kamui and stands as one of the final surviving members of the Yato clan. Similar to his daughter, he wields an umbrella in combat and possesses significant strength, ranking among the few characters capable of overpowering Kagura. He initially appears when an alien invader takes over the Terminal, assisting the Yorozuya in defeating the creature, during which his cybernetic arm is revealed. Following this, he departs to travel the galaxy in pursuit of extraterrestrials, later contacting Kagura via letter to suggest that Sadaharu is a monster that needs to be eliminated. His leadership role differs across adaptations: in the anime, he is recruited by a Char Aznable doppelganger to lead the "Principality," while in the manga, he is recruited by a Darth Vader lookalike. Additionally, he participated in a hair-growing shampoo advertisement, a segment so lengthy that the Yorozuya complained about its duration. Mangaka Hideaki Sorachi confirmed in a volume 57 Q&A that Umibozu’s true name is Kankou.
