Summary
Nine-year-old Shizuka Kuze is a lonely child who finds solace in her pet dog, Chappy. Her family life has been fractured by her parents' divorce, with her father departing when she was very young and her mother working as an escort, leaving Shizuka to spend most of her time alone. Her school experience is defined by the relentless harassment and bullying of Marina, who takes out her rage on Shizuka due to the destruction of her own family. The conflict stems from Shizuka’s mother having an affair with Marina’s father, which led to Marina’s family falling apart and her directing her anger toward the girl responsible. Shizuka is also the one who discovers Takopi, becoming an unwitting participant in the strange events that follow.
