Summary
Scar’s mentor was a holy man from Ishval who served as the student's guide until they were separated during Kimblee’s attack on their refugee group. Upon discovering Scar’s vendetta against State Alchemists, the elder offered counsel rooted in Ishvalan teachings. In the anime adaptation, he warns that while victims of suffering may find rest, those who inflict pain can never sleep, their minds forever tormented. The manga expands on this philosophy, with the master explaining that revenge only breeds more revenge. Scar initially dismissed this view until Winry Held a gun on him to avenge her parents, whom Scar had killed, forcing him to confront the cycle of hatred. Later, the master speaks for the Ishvalan refugees when Mustang and his squad arrive seeking Scar. He is one of the few survivors of the covert operation led by Martel that precipitated the Ishval Massacre. Although unnamed in the anime, he appears in the manga, notably in Chapters 58 and 72. In a flashback, he urges his people to endure the damage inflicted by Amestris without surrendering to hatred, emphasizing that as human beings, they must break the cycle rather than perpetuate it.
