Kurogane

Summary

Kurogane is a serious and highly perceptive individual who can quickly assess Syaoran's combat prowess and his blind right eye, as well as Fai D. Flourite's true nature and fighting capabilities. Although he appears somewhat irreverent, he remains deeply loyal and is likely the most experienced fighter in the group, possessing a wisdom that surpasses his outward demeanor. He serves as Syaoran's sword fighting instructor, imparting his philosophy that a sword should only be used to cut when absolutely necessary and otherwise left sheathed. Despite his seriousness, Kurogane is easily irritated, particularly by Mokona Modoki and Fai, who persistently address him with cutesy nicknames like "Kuro-puu," "Kuro-wan-wan," or "Kuro-rin." Beneath his abrasive and ruthless exterior lies a compassionate desire to protect others. He frequently challenges Fai to let go of his past and embrace life with his new companions, and he has stated that he will kill anyone who threatens those he wishes to protect. His protective nature evolves significantly throughout the series; initially, he told Syaoran in the Hanshin Republic that the quest did not concern him, but later in Koryo Country, he offered to help raid an evil lord's castle and stayed behind to cover Syaoran's advance. He even risked his strength to avenge his comrades' apparent deaths, though his passion for the battle faded once he learned Fai and Syaoran were alive. In Outo, he acquired a new sword called the Souhi, or Blue Ice, and taught Syaoran how to sense attacks from the left. Currently, he works as a PE teacher at Horitsuba Gakuen.
