Virgilia

Virgilia

Summary

Virgilia is a silver-haired witch who lived for over a thousand years, with a birthday on July 19. She enjoys black tea, scones, and mackerel, but has a strong aversion to rainy days. Before Beatrice took the mantle, Virgilia served as the Endless Witch and acted as her teacher. Her name is derived from the Divine Comedy character Virgil, who guides Dante through Hell and Purgatory toward Beatrice, who then guides him through Heaven. Although she surrendered most of her powers to Beatrice upon passing on the title of Endless Witch, she remains a witch of immense capability. Unlike Beatrice, Virgilia believes that a witch’s powers should be used for the greater good rather than for selfish purposes. She taught Beatrice Endless Magic before retiring, under the assumption that her successor would dedicate herself to helping others. During her tenure, she also served as the magician of Beatrice’s home, effectively taking on the role of a servant in her presence. This dynamic is often cited as the cause of her downfall, as it reportedly fostered Beatrice’s arrogance and recklessness. It is also suggested that she may be linked to Chiyo Kumasawa.
