Summary
Bishin is a traveling candy peddler who has a daughter named Gyokuyou. In the novels, she remains unnamed. She and her daughter discover Youko in the forests of Kou, exhausted and near collapse at nightfall. They offer her sugar water and invite her to join them in a village for safety, but Youko, having been betrayed by apparent kindness in the past, rejects their offer. The mother and daughter reluctantly leave, and Youko later collapses before being found by Rakushun. After recovering, Youko reunites with Bishin and Gyokuyou when she and Rakushun are separated following a youma attack. Youko thanks them for their kindness before they part ways so she can continue her journey to En with Rakushun. In the anime, Bishin’s role is expanded; she and her daughter travel with a group of performers in a caravan while peddling sugar. Lacking a kingdom to call home, she is labeled as a Shusei.
