Sairin
Summary
Sairin serves as the current kirin of Sai. Prior to designating Kouko as the nation's monarch, the kirin had selected a king named Shishou, who ascended to the throne following the death of his predecessor and climbed Mount Hou. At the start of his rule, Shishou gifted Sairin the kashokada, a jeweled branch that serves as Sai's royal treasure, swearing to govern wisely and ensure the country's prosperity. However, over the course of his twenty-year reign, his misdeeds caused Sairin to contract shitsudou. Recognizing that he had strayed from his path, Shishou returned to Mount Hou to abdicate and took his own life. Sairin subsequently chose Kouko as the new king and continues to carry a leafy branch as a memento of the broken promise Shishou made to her regarding his stewardship of the land.
