Lugia

Summary

Lugia is a colossal Pokémon with a physique blending features of dragons, plesiosaurs, and birds. Its body is predominantly silver-white, contrasted by blue undersides of varying shades. It possesses a ridged, beak-like mouth equipped with pointed teeth on the lower jaw, a backward-pointing head crest, and eyes adorned with sharp blue or black spikes. Its slender neck supports a streamlined form, while dark blue or black plate-like protrusions line its back, ending in two smaller, pointed plates on the tail tip. Its massive wings are shaped somewhat like hands. Lugia can retract these dorsal plates to boost its speed. Although its gender is unspecified, the appearance of a juvenile in The Mystery is History (EP222) indicates a breeding population within the animated series continuity. In that episode, Lugia is depicted as fiercely protective of its offspring, which feed on kelp. In The Power of One (M02), Lugia acts as a mediator for the legendary birds, quelling their territorial disputes, though it requires a partner to fully suppress their conflict. Like the birds, it commands the weather, capable of both calming and summoning storms. A gentle wing flap can generate winds strong enough to destroy ordinary houses, while full-force flapping could theoretically sustain storms for forty days. It can split islands into smaller fragments and attacks by projecting air vortices and utilizing psychic power. Highly intelligent and aware of its destructive potential, Lugia isolates itself deep underwater to sleep in solitude. It is exceedingly rare and seldom observed. Historically, it perched at the Brass Tower in Ecruteak City until its destruction 150 years ago, after which it relocated to the Whirl Islands to protect others from its power. It can be summoned at Whirl Island using a feather, Tidal Bells, and the Kimono Girls' dance. Known by titles such as the guardian of the seas, deity of the sea, beast of the sea, mythical sea creature, and vengeance deity, rumors claim it appears during stormy nights. It also has a fondness for Lugia Treats crafted by Snacksworth, who encountered it in the past. Shadow Lugia is the inaugural and sole Shadow Pokémon from the XD series, engineered by Lovrina of Cipher. It features jagged silver eye-spikes, a dark-purple body with white underparts, and glowing red eyes. Additionally, it has claw-like toes and a longer, more pointed tongue.
