Summary
Cornello is a low-tier alchemist and a charlatan who deceives the populace of Lior by posing as a divine emissary of the Sun God Leto. He claims to possess a Philosopher's Stone capable of miracles, such as resurrection, using alchemy to bring prosperity to the desert city while secretly aiming to turn its citizens into a fanatical army. The Elric brothers expose his deceit, causing the unstable, incomplete Philosopher's Stone to shatter and tear his arm into a grotesque mass of flesh and metal. Once the Elrics thwart his plans and he becomes useless to the Homunculi, he is consumed by Gluttony. Envy, disguised as Cornello, continues the ruse until the State Military subjugates Lior. In the manga version of events, Lust informs Gluttony that consuming a fourth-rate fraud like Cornello is a waste, and kills him herself. Gluttony then eats the corpse, prompting an annoyed response from Lust, who remarks that she had previously instructed him not to eat that specific individual.
