Hannya

Summary

Hannya, originally abandoned at birth due to his impoverished village's desperate need to reduce the population, survived and wandered feral until Aoshi rescued him and recruited him into the Oniwabanshū. Serving as the group's master of disguise, Hannya wears a demonic mask because he surgically removed his prominent facial features to better impersonate others. Deeply loyal to Aoshi, who gave him a purpose, Hannya even disfigured his own face to enhance his infiltration capabilities. He sacrificed his own safety to buy Kenshin time to retrieve his sakabatou, enabling the defeat of Kanryuu and the rescue of Aoshi. His combat style is rooted in Aoshi’s teachings, but he incorporates deceptive tactics, such as painting horizontal stripes on his arms to make his limbs appear shorter and mislead opponents about his actual reach.
