Summary

Enrolling in Class 2-4 at Tomobiki High School, Ataru endures a relentless streak of misfortune attributed to his birth on the most inauspicious day of the Buddhist calendar. He is characterized by his lecherous, foolish, and indolent nature, yet beneath his attempts to avoid Lum and his flirtations with other women lies genuine affection for her. His primary ambition is to reside at the heart of a harem filled with alluring and exotic females, prominently featuring Lum and her alien companions. His approach to romance is unsettlingly direct; he routinely approaches strangers to demand their names, phone numbers, and addresses, a behavior that would intimidate even the most persistent stalkers. Once Ataru sets his sights on a specific woman, nothing on Earth or in space can deter him. Although he initially denied it, his actions in the later episodes ultimately reveal that Lum is the one he truly loves.
