Summary
Asagi is a koto player who served Lord Mibu, who once assembled performers to entertain guests within Isozuki's Forest. She became afflicted with a debilitating illness that gradually dried out her body until it crumbled into dust. Once she was no longer able to fulfill her duties for Lord Mibu, she voluntarily departed the forest. Her umbrella-holder and bodyguard, Janome, took her into his care, transporting her inside a special gourd. Asagi possesses the ability to inhabit other people, a process that temporarily halts the progression of her sickness. Janome helps her locate suitable hosts to possess, although he does so somewhat against her own wishes.
