Summary
Mayu is a twelve-year-old girl who turns thirteen in chapter 20. Abandoned by her mother and subjected to sexual abuse by her stepfather, she fled her home and began living on the streets at the series' outset. To survive, she relied on bread crusts provided by a local bakery, which the staff gave her under the false impression that she was feeding a small puppy she carried with her. She found and named this puppy Wanta. Later, she came to live with Kouta and Yuka, who became her legal guardians. Mayu also formed a friendship with Nana, attempting to act as an older sister figure to her.
