Maclean, Randy

Summary

Randy Maclean is a half-Japanese officer and light chestnut-haired partner to Dee. Despite appearing somewhat detached, he is a mature and sensitive man who lost his parents at eighteen. He takes in the young Bikky early in the story, relying on his intelligence to keep the boy out of trouble. Although he tries to deflect Dee’s advances, his efforts are largely ineffective. Ryo struggles to define his desires but cares deeply for his partner. He is uncomfortable with Dee calling him by his Japanese name, as it implies intimacy, and is naturally private. However, as Dee imposes this name on him, others follow suit, forcing Ryo to become more open. Highly suggestible, he frequently ponders others' advice and questions his self-image, which often leads to depression. Ryo loves children and seeks warmth and affection. He is compassionate, indifferent to money but conscientious in saving, and enjoys flowers. He has strong ideas about order, which Dee frequently disrupts with casual untidiness and confusing behavior. While appearing friendly and shy to strangers, Ryo’s control can break under pressure from Bikky or Dee, revealing a violent side that disturbs him and contributes to his unease around Dee.
