Summary
As a member of the Juppongatana, Kamatari harbors deep affection for Makoto Shishio. Although he presents a feminine appearance, he is biologically male. He wields an exceptionally heavy weapon consisting of a large scythe attached to a ball and chain. Despite his loyalty and spirited nature, Kamatari fights to compensate for his perceived shortcomings compared to his comrades; he acknowledges that he lacks the skill of Soujiro, the cunning and intelligence of Shishio’s tactical adviser Hoji, and the beauty of Shishio’s lover Yumi. In the battle at Aoi-Ya, he is defeated by Kaoru and Misao. Following Shishio’s defeat, Cho reveals that Kamatari goes on to serve as a spy for the Japanese government.
