Monev the Gale

Summary

Monev the Gale serves as the initial Gung-Ho-Guns operative to clash with Vash. Millions Knives confined him in a cell for two decades to condition his physique, aiming to equip him with the requisite strength and ability to challenge Vash. Clad in a powered battle suit, Monev wields two high-powered chain guns mounted on his arms. These weapons fire with extreme velocity, driven by pressure chambers on his back, and possess immense stopping power capable of destroying entire buildings. He also carries a large cloth rucksack filled with various armaments, including a massive minigun potent enough to breach a bank vault. Sent by Legato to assault Vash, Monev engages in a destructive battle across a city, resulting in numerous casualties and the severing of Vash’s cybernetic arm. Vash ultimately defeats him, nearly violating his oath against killing due to rage over the destruction caused. However, Vash regains his composure and spares Monev, who surrenders his coin and departs. Later, E.G. Mine displays Monev’s crucified and murdered body to challenge Vash. In the anime adaptation, Monev survives but is subsequently killed by E.G. Mine alongside Dominique the Cyclops following his failure. In Trigun Stampede, Monev’s design evokes Venom from the Spider-Man series, a fitting contrast to Vash’s red coat. This resemblance reflects creator Yasuhiro Nightow’s fandom of Spider-Man and McFarlane merchandise.
