Summary

Orochimaru, whose name translates to large serpent, is a male shinobi born on October 27, making him a Scorpio. Originally hailing from Konohagakure, he is recognized as one of the most powerful ninjas and holds the title of Legendary Sannin, a distinction shared with his former teammates Jiraiya and Tsunade, bestowed by Hanzō during the Second Shinobi World War. As an S-rank missing-nin, he was once an ANBU member with the ninja registration number 002300, having graduated from the Academy at the age of six. His affiliations have shifted over time, including tenures with Konohagakure, Root, Akatsuki, and Otagakure. Physically, Orochimaru stands 179.4 cm tall and weighs 67 kg in Part I, while in Part II he is slightly shorter at 172.0 cm and lighter at 58 kg. He possesses the Bloodline Limit Wood Release and can utilize Wind, Water, Wood, Earth, and Fire Nature Types. During his time with Akatsuki, he wore the Void (Sky) ring on his left little finger and partnered with Sasori and Yakushi Kabuto. He enjoys eggs but dislikes cold food. His personality is defined by ambition, cruelty, and egoism, with a favorite word being destruction or chaos. His primary interest lies in developing new jutsu, and he has completed numerous assignments ranging from D-Rank to S-Rank. A child prodigy identified as a genius shinobi, Orochimaru’s parents died when he was young, an event that Jiraiya believes shaped his goals which were alien to the village's ideals. He studied under the Third Hokage, who recognized his natural talent despite being aware of the malice and lust for power within Orochimaru. The Third Hokage chose to overlook these traits, hoping to quell them. Orochimaru’s obsession with power deepened after finding the shed skin of a white snake at his parents' grave, a sign of good fortune according to the Third. This inspired him to study kinjutsu and become obsessed with learning all ninjutsu in the world. After defecting from Konoha, Orochimaru joined the elite criminal organization Akatsuki. While details of his activities during this period are largely unknown, it is revealed that he attempted to take control of Uchiha Itachi's body to gain possession of the Sharingan. His main goals remain capturing Uchiha Sasuke to use as a new vessel for the Sharingan and destroying Konoha. He first appeared in Chapter 45 of the manga and Episode 27 of the anime.
