Moondoggie holds the distinction of being the second-newest recruit of the Gekkostate, following only Renton. His official pilot’s license, revealed in episode 34, identifies him as James Darren Emerson. The other Gekkostate members typically shorten his nickname to "Doggie," while Renton affectionately calls him "Doggie-niisan," a term the English dub translates as "Brother Doggie," positioning Moondoggie as an older brother figure.
