Summary
Yui Hongo, born on October 26, serves as the Priestess of Seiryuu. A mature and intelligent tenth-grade student, she is Miaka Yūki’s best friend. Although she presents a confident and bold exterior, Yui is deeply passionate and views the world in stark black-and-white terms, becoming easily angered by what she perceives as betrayal. Beneath her strong demeanor, she secretly desires someone to take care of her. The manga reveals that she previously cut her hair specifically to deter unwanted attention from boys. Initially transported to the Universe of Four Gods alongside Miaka, Yui quickly returns to the real world and assumes the role of the reader, whose actions drive the events within the book’s reality. However, she becomes trapped inside the book while attempting to help Miaka escape. After being captured and knocked unconscious by bandits, she wakes up believing she has been raped. Overcome with despair, she attempts suicide but is rescued by Nakago. Unaware that Nakago had actually saved her prior to the bandit incident and that no rape occurred, she is manipulated into believing Miaka is responsible for her suffering. Nakago convinces her to become the Priestess of Seiryuu as a means of revenge. Eagerly agreeing to fight Miaka and win over Tamahome, whom she has begun to find attractive, Yui pledges to take away Miaka’s lover.
