Summary

Pu'ar is a gentle, shape-shifting blue creature and the steadfast partner of Yamcha. His name serves as a pun on Pu-erh tea, and while creator Akira Toriyama admitted to drawing him with slight feline features, Pu'ar is neither a cat nor a mouse. The duo operated as a team, robbing travelers in their desert home. Pu'ar possesses innate levitation abilities, often seen hovering at head height. He can transform into any form, including inanimate objects, for unlimited durations without gaining strength, though he cannot turn into consumables like fuel or food. A graduate of the same shape-shifting academy as Oolong, Pu'ar mastered the training and lacks his peer’s issues with maintaining transformations. Although prominent early on, his role diminishes as the series focuses more on combat, leaving him mostly as an observer to the escalating threats. His gender remains ambiguous, with voice actresses often female and pronouns varying in the anime, though Toriyama has referred to Pu'ar as male. Many fans consider gender irrelevant for a being capable of assuming any form.
