Summary
Yukiteru Amano, often called Yuki, is the fourteen-year-old male protagonist of the series and the user of the First Diary. Standing at 161 cm and weighing 53 kg, he is a middle school student who tends to be quiet and anti-social, preferring to observe life as a bystander and record his thoughts in his cell phone diary. His life changes when Deus, a god-like being Yuki previously believed was imaginary, reveals himself and forces Yuki into the Diary Game. This is a ninety-day battle royale among twelve contestants who must use their special diaries to kill one another, with the final survivor becoming Deus’ new heir. Yuki’s specific diary is the Random Diary, which provides accurate, detailed information about his surroundings from his own perspective, covering both the present and the future. However, this ability has significant drawbacks: it does not reveal what is happening to Yuki himself, leaving him vulnerable, and because it reflects his subjective viewpoint, he can be deceived into believing false information, a flaw that can also affect allies using the Random Diary. Unlike many other participants, Yuki has no desire to kill and simply wishes to live peacefully. He is forced to play for survival and only resorts to violence as a last measure. As Deus favors him to win, Yuki becomes the primary target for other diary users. Recognizing his physical weakness, he quickly seeks allies for protection, most notably Yuno Gasai. Yuno is a classmate and fellow diary user who is obsessively in love with Yuki. While she is a formidable protector, her willingness to kill or manipulate anyone to ensure their survival frightens Yuki. Despite his fear of her extreme behavior, he continues to rely on her for safety. Yuki is generally kind but naive, often trusting people too quickly without considering their hidden motives. His name is derived from Jupiter, the Roman god of the sky, weather, and lightning.
