Summary
Youichi Hijiri is a three-year-old male student classified as a Single Star within the Dangerous Ability Class, making him the youngest member of his cohort. He possesses an Alice ability centered on Ghost Manipulation and Age Control. Specifically, his power involves summoning malicious spirits, a classification deemed a Dangerous Ability type. Despite his young age, Youichi is remarkably bright and intelligent. Initially, Youichi displayed a strong attachment to Natsume but seemed to harbor a dislike for Mikan. However, his feelings toward Mikan shifted significantly over time; he eventually became fond of her, even sharing a kiss on her cheek at one point. As the manga progressed, he began to cling to her more frequently. He also developed a deep affection for Mr. Bear. Youichi shares a particular love for "Fluff Puffs" (Howalon), the best-selling candy in Central Town, a trait he shares with Mikan. Natsume feels a kinship with Youichi, believing the boy is just like him. Consequently, Natsume actively assists Youichi in transferring out of the Dangerous Ability class. During the Hana Princess arc, Youichi accidentally consumed an aging candy stolen from Hotaru. This incident granted him the ability to alter his physical age, allowing him to transform into a thirteen-year-old. However, this change comes with side effects that let him switch between his younger and older forms. Crucially, his mental maturity remains that of a three-year-old regardless of his physical appearance. This discrepancy creates awkward situations for Mikan, particularly because the older Youichi retains his childish tendency to hug and carry her. Youichi also makes an appearance in the spin-off series M to N no Shōzō, where he is identified as the younger brother of Eiichi Hijiri.
