Summary
Umezou runs the tavern where the Five Leaves group gathers to strategize. A former member of a notorious robbery gang, he successfully negotiated his release from the criminal underworld. Following his departure from the gang, he married and fathered a daughter named Okinu, but his wife later passed away due to illness. Umezou abandoned his life of crime to raise Okinu as a single father. He is fiercely protective of his daughter and harbors deep resentment toward anyone who causes her distress. His rough demeanor often comes across as hostile to strangers, though he eventually grows fond of Masanosuke, overcoming his initial aversion to the young man’s timid nature and gentle heart.
