Summary
Vandesdelca Musto Fende, widely recognized as Van Grants, serves as the Commandant of the Order of Lorelei and commander of the Six God Generals. He also acts as Luke’s sword instructor and mentor. In his youth, while his mother was pregnant with his sister, Tear Grants, Van was compelled to destroy his hometown of Hod by attaching himself to a machine designed to induce hyperresonance. Discovering that this tragedy was foretold in the Score ignited his intense hatred for the system and fueled his ambition to overthrow it. Since the creation of replicas was not predicted in the Score, they remained unbound by its rules. Consequently, Van’s ultimate goal became replicating the entire world and everything within it, thereby eradicating all originals. To achieve this, Van needed to secure a position of power and gather followers. He joined the Order of Lorelei, the organization tasked with ensuring the world adhered to the Score. Upon rising to a higher rank, he attempted to appear older to inspire respect rather than jealousy among his peers. Within the Order, he found like-minded individuals who formed the Six God Generals, all sharing his disdain for the Score. Although Van initially followed the Score, even facilitating the fall of Akzeriuth, he eventually revealed his true intentions by attempting to bring about the destruction of St. Binah as well. As the Commandant of the Six God Generals, Van is a formidable adversary, serving as the final boss in two battles. He utilizes both magic, including fonic hymns, and melee attacks. His repertoire includes three Mystic Artes. The first, Imperial Slaughter, resembles Asch’s Rending Saber; Van tosses his foe into the air with streams of light, thrusts his sword into the ground to create a fonic glyph, and unleashes light energy to damage nearby targets. His second technique, Celestial Elegy, involves holding his sword overhead to strike nearby characters with spirals of light, followed by a ground slam that releases beams of light in a wide radius. His final Mystic Arte, Ancient Requiem, mirrors Luke’s Radiant Howl. Van lifts the opponent into the air using a storm of light rays and assaults them with an energy ball that subsequently explodes, knocking the character away.
