Summary
Haruhi Fujioka is the intelligent protagonist of the series, serving as a scholarship student at the prestigious and expensive Ouran High School. Despite her academic excellence, which saw her rank first in her first-year mid-term exams, she comes from a modest background. Her entry into the school’s elite social circle began when she accidentally shattered an eight million yen vase belonging to the Host Club. To settle the debt, she was forced to join the group by disguising herself as a male host, a role she adopted after the club mistakenly identified her as a boy following an incident where gum became stuck in her hair. Initially, Haruhi viewed the hosting duties as a means to an end, often finding the antics of her fellow hosts irritating and preferring to focus on her studies. However, she naturally excelled in the role, earning the title of "Natural" host and even discovering enjoyment in her interactions with other girls. Her appearance was altered when she cut her hair short to resolve the gum incident, resulting in her sentai color being assigned as Red and her ranking in dai hin min at sixth place. Haruhi’s personality is shaped by her upbringing; she lives with her cross-dressing father, known as an okama, and has become highly independent and self-reliant after her mother passed away when she was young. She strives never to let others worry about her, maintaining an unflappable demeanor despite a hidden fear of thunderstorms. Her favorite subjects include Classic Japanese, English, World History, and her time spent with the Host club. She enjoys high-class foods like ootoro, seafood, strawberries, and candy apples, reflecting a taste that contrasts with her commoner roots.
