During their journey, the group was forced to halt in a desolate alley by a Quizzing Lady accompanied by several masked individuals. The elderly woman posed a difficult dilemma, requiring the applicants to provide answers within a five-second window. Matthew stepped forward and volunteered to answer first, intending to use the time to set traps. After providing his response to the old lady, she allowed him to pass; however, the route she indicated was a trap. Kurapika observed that Matthew was subsequently attacked and likely killed by a monster.
