Summary
Ling Yao is a Xingese character who appears exclusively in the manga and the 2009 anime series. Driven by his father, the Emperor's, deteriorating health, Ling left his homeland in search of the Philosopher's Stone. His goals are twofold: to stabilize Xing and to obtain the secret of immortality. Although he is the twelfth son of the Emperor, Ling aims to use the Stone to advance his position in the line of succession and eventually claim the throne, thereby ensuring the prosperity of his clan. Despite his laid-back demeanor and constant hunger, he possesses a noble spirit and is willing to do whatever is necessary to protect his family. Ling is also a formidable combatant who has survived numerous assassination attempts. He shares a strong rivalry with Ed, often going so far as to spend Ed's money simply to irritate him.
