Satotz, known as the Archaeological Hunter, serves as the appointed examiner for the first stage of the Hunter Exam. He challenges the candidates' endurance by guiding them through a marathon of unspecified duration via an underground tunnel. Although he appears to be merely power-walking, his speed forces the examinees to accelerate continuously to stay with him. Upon exiting the tunnel, he leads the group through the Numere Marsh, also referred to as Sagishi no Negura or "The Swindler's Nest," a treacherous swamp inhabited by carnivorous beasts, before depositing them at the location of the second examination. In his civilian life as a Hunter archaeologist, Satotz was motivated to obtain his license by Ging. While he initially approaches his judicial duties with a rigid sense of civic obligation, he gradually develops a fondness for Gon and expresses a desire to assist him.
