Summary
Tear Fende is a 16-year-old Locrian Sergeant serving in the Oracle Knights Intelligence Division, a branch of the Order of Lorelei that oversees the Score. Standing at 162 cm and weighing 50 kg, she hails from Yulia City. Her lineage traces back to the Fende family, originally from the Island of Hod, which was consumed by the Qliphoth during the Hod War. This catastrophe claimed her mother, who was pregnant with Tear at the time, and her older brother Van, who became a God-Genera. Raised by Van and her adopted grandfather, Mayor Teodoro of Yulia City, Tear joined the Order of Lorelei upon reaching adulthood. Her personality was heavily shaped by her mentor, Legretta the Quick, one of the Six God-Generals and Van’s assistant. Tear attributes her cold, concise, and calculating demeanor to Legretta’s influence, as well as a deep desire for Van’s approval. As a descendant of Yulia, the original fonist who discovered the Seventh Fonon, Tear possesses the ability to wield this power. Uniquely, she is one of the few individuals capable of performing the Grand Fonic Hymn, a compilation of seven Fonic hymns that significantly boosts the user’s statistics, rendering them nearly invincible for a period. At the start of the narrative, Tear learns of Van’s intent to destroy the main world. Acting on orders from Grand Maestro Mohs, she seeks the Seventh Fonstone to reach the Outer Lands. During her mission, she infiltrates the Fabre manor under the guise of Luke Fon Fabre’s sword-master mentor. When she attempts to assassinate Luke, he intervenes, triggering a hyperresonance between them due to his unknown Seventh Fonon power. This event transports both of them to the Malkuth Empire. Stranded in enemy territory, Tear vows to return Luke to their home. After escaping Tataroo Valley, they witness Colonel Jade Curtiss’s dreadnaught pursuing a coach across the Rotelo Bridge. The coach drops explosive barrels, destroying their escape route and forcing them to take shelter in Engeve, a farming town in the Malkuth Empire. There, they become entangled in a larger plot threatening Auldrant. Despite her serious and dedicated nature, Tear has a soft spot for cute and fluffy things, including Mieu, the bearer of the Sorcerer’s Ring. In Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, she even found Eugene Gallardo and Mormo adorable. She is modest about her appearance and dislikes revealing clothing; when given a risqué bikini by Emperor Peony IX, she chose a rental one-piece with a garter belt, earning her the title Rental Beauty. She also reacts angrily to body-related jokes, such as when Luke and Anise Tatlin discuss her figure. Additionally, Tear is afraid of ghosts, often trying to rush past spooky stories while denying her fear, much to the amusement of her companions.
