Yanagisawa, Naoko
Summary
Naoko Yanagisawa is an elementary school classmate and friend of Sakura Kinomoto, with whom she also participates in the cheerleading squad. She has a strong passion for reading, specifically enjoying fantasy and ghost stories. Naoko is fascinated by mysterious events and displays a complete lack of fear when confronted with scary situations. In the thirty-first episode of the anime, she inadvertently comes into possession of The Create card, which had taken the form of a book. Unaware of its true nature, Naoko uses the book, which grants reality to anything she writes. This leads to a chaotic situation involving strange mystical creatures, including a dragon that breathes fire, which Sakura and her friends must resolve. The card’s powers cease once Naoko closes the book at bedtime, allowing Sakura to capture it. Upon waking and discovering the book is missing, Naoko attributes its disappearance to a supernatural encounter and is pleased by the experience. Clamp mentioned in an interview that they had originally planned for Naoko to have a long-distance boyfriend, but the chapter containing that plot was ultimately removed from the series. In the Japanese version, the character is voiced by Emi Motoi. In the English adaptation of Cardcaptors, her name is changed to Nikki and she is voiced by Kelly Sheridan. For the English dub of the second movie, she is voiced by Sherry Lynn.
