Aoyama, Tsuruko
Summary
Tsuruko Aoyama serves as Motoko’s elder sibling and the current guardian of their family’s Shinmeiryuu legacy. Although she stepped away from active swordsmanship to marry and no longer manages the school directly, she is responsible for eventually passing the institution to Motoko. While Motoko has long feared her sister, Tsuruko genuinely desires Motoko’s happiness and supports whatever path she chooses. However, Tsuruko has a violent reaction to dishonesty, frequently attempting to kill Motoko when she lies or omits critical information, such as when Motoko concealed her failure on the Todai entrance exam or feigned engagement with Keitaro to avoid returning to Kyoto. Like Motoko, her combat style focuses on destroying evil using ki-infused slashes that can harm malevolent entities or cut through physical objects. It was later revealed in Mahou Sensei Negima! that Tsuruko was the instructor who taught Setsuna and Tsukuyomi the Shinmei-ryu swordsmanship.
