Summary

Neji Hyuuga is a stoic ninja who serves as part of Team Guy alongside Rock Lee and Tenten. While he shares a rivalry with Lee, mirroring the dynamic between their sensei Might Guy and Kakashi Hatake, Neji remains indifferent to Lee’s determination to prove that effort can surpass natural talent. He gets along well with Tenten, who often assists with his training, and the two frequently share skepticism regarding the overreactive nature of Lee and Guy. As a prodigy from the Hyuga clan, Neji possesses the Byakugan, which allows him to perceive chakra flow and utilize the Gentle Fist style to disrupt it. Although the clan’s elders withheld the most secret techniques from him due to his status as a branch house member, Neji mastered many of the clan’s strongest abilities independently and even developed unique skills, earning him the title of genius and the distinction of graduating from the Academy as the top rookie. His worldview was shaped by his birth into the branch house, where he was branded with a seal to ensure the loyalty of the main house. His father, Hizashi Hyuga, openly resented this system, a sentiment Neji inherited. This hatred intensified after Hizashi sacrificed himself to save Hiashi Hyuga, the main house leader and Hizashi’s twin. Neji came to believe that fate is predetermined at birth and that destiny cannot be escaped, fueling a deep-seated animosity toward the main house. However, following his battle with Naruto during the Chunnin Exams, Hiashi recognized Neji’s immense skill and invited him to train with the main branch, an offer that helped ease tensions between the two factions of the Hyuga clan.
