Summary
Kinogasa serves as the leading official at the Hakone Checkpoint and derives a disturbing satisfaction from carrying out executions. Born into a prestigious family in Edo, he has been raised with excessive indulgence. His introduction occurs when he apprehends Mugen, Jin, and Fuu for possessing forged passes. Having just put a man to death who was supposed to be extradited on an outstanding warrant, Kinogasa sentences the trio to death. Yamane intervenes, instructing Kinogasa to task Mugen with delivering the deceased man's severed head instead. Kinogasa agrees but decrees that Jin and Fuu will be executed if Mugen does not return within the allotted time. However, before the sentence can be carried out, Kinogasa is pelted with stones, causing him to collapse on the ground, rolling around while crying and giggling uncontrollably.
