Summary
Hotori Tadase is a thirteen-year-old boy born on March 29th, falling under the Aries horoscope with blood type B. He shares the same age as Amu and serves as the K-Chair, or King's Chair, among the Guardians. Known by the alias "Prince" due to his bishounen appearance, he is Amu’s love interest. Although he is kind-hearted and mature, Tadase is actually shy and struggles with public speaking. This insecurity led him to desire a stronger persona, similar to Amu’s, because he feared his natural self was insufficient. He resides in a traditional Japanese house and was deeply affected by the recent death of his beloved dog, Betty, a fact revealed in the second manga volume. Tadase joined the other Guardians in their quest to recruit Amu, driven by a prophecy concerning a girl who would appear with three Guardian Eggs. At one point, he lost confidence after failing to locate the Embryo. His situation worsened when he was influenced by the Black Diamonds CD, causing his egg, Kiseki, to mutate into an X egg. Amu helped him overcome this crisis, allowing him to finally Character Change with Kiseki into "Platinum Royale." In this form, he is distinguished by excessive frills and laces, a design choice the writer made to emphasize his princely image. His attacks include "Holy Crown," which creates a golden energy shield, and "White Decoration," used during Character Transformation to cleanse X-Eggs. Tadase initially harbored a crush on Amu’s persona, "Amulet Heart," claiming he loved her because that persona represented her ideal self. As the story progresses, he grows taller than Amu, who was initially his height. In chapter 28 of the manga and episode 74 of the anime, Tadase confesses his feelings to Amu, asking if it is acceptable to fall in love with her now that he recognizes she is truly herself and no longer needs to rely on "Amulet Heart." His confession is overheard by Ikuto, who is hiding in a closet, sparking Ikuto’s jealousy.
