Dr. Franken Stein, who uses Franken as his given name, is the individual responsible for transforming Sid into a zombie. He holds the distinction of being Death Scythe’s first partner, preceding Maka’s mother as the second. Stein is widely regarded as the most powerful technician to ever graduate from Shibusen. He features a bolt running through his head that rotates to help him maintain focus on the matter at hand. His preferred method of locomotion involves pushing his chair toward his desired destination, a habit that frequently results in him crashing to the floor. Despite remaining seated, his combat prowess is sufficient to defeat Black Star. Stein views all entities, including himself, as experiments or specimens. This mindset led him to experiment on Spirit, who was then a Death Scythe, while he slept during the five years they collaborated. Stein possesses exceptional spiritual flexibility, granting him a significant advantage in battle. By observing opponents beforehand, he can adjust his own soul wavelength to match theirs, effectively nullifying or disrupting their soul frequency. His soul wavelength is so potent that he does not require a weapon; he can channel it through his body and release it as an electric discharge. Additionally, Stein has a peculiar hobby of dissecting anything he finds interesting. He serves as the school doctor and continues to respect Spirit, addressing him as Senpai. Beyond his electric attacks, Stein utilizes various techniques. These include Soul Sutures, which binds targets to surfaces like the ground via soul wavelength at the cost of immobilizing the user due to the high mental concentration required. He also employs Witch Hunter, a technique typically used by Maka, when Spirit functions as his weapon. Furthermore, he can counter direct soul attacks by matching the incoming wavelengths.
