Yagokoro, Eirin
Summary
The name Yagokoro translates to "countless thoughts," symbolizing boundless wisdom, while Eirin means "eternal jewel." A genius pharmacist who originally resided on the moon, she was persuaded by Kaguya to create the forbidden Hourai Elixir, an elixir of life that Kaguya consumed. When their transgression was discovered, only Kaguya was punished and exiled to Earth, a tragedy that left Eirin with enduring guilt. Later, when the moon court pardoned Kaguya and summoned her back, Eirin was part of the emissary team sent to retrieve her. Upon learning that Kaguya had no desire to return to the lunar court, Eirin’s lingering guilt drove her to betray and murder the other emissaries in front of the earthlings who had raised Kaguya. To ensure their silence, she bribed the earthlings with the Hourai Elixir and subsequently went into hiding with Kaguya in Gensokyo.
