Gyumao
Seiyuu / Dub
Summary
Gyumao is modeled after Niúmówáng, also known as the Ox-Demon-King, from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. Although his title sounds intimidating, he is actually a harmless and cheerful individual. Fans often mistakenly assume that Gyū is his surname and Maō is his first name because gyū appears on his helmet crest. His demeanor was somewhat demonic and frightening when his castle was consumed by fire on Frypan Mountain. During that time, he terrorized the village below, threatening anyone he suspected of trying to steal his treasure, until Kamesen'nin helped him see the error of his ways. He is the father of Chichi, making him Son Goku's father-in-law, as well as the grandfather of Gohan and Goten. Physically, Gyumao is quite strong, having trained alongside Grandpa Son Gohan under the guidance of Muten-Rôshi. As the narrative advances, his presence diminishes, reducing him to a background figure primarily used for minor comic relief. However, in anime filler episodes, he occasionally takes on larger roles, mostly seen accompanying his family and their companions.
